12-fight card set for CW99 in Colchester

Cage Warriors’ huge year of action continues as the organisation heads to one of the hotbeds of MMA development in the UK, Essex, for Cage Warriors 99.

And hot on the heels of a Cage Warriors Academy South East event at the venue, Cage Warriors is bringing their big show to Colchester’s Charter Hall on Saturday, November 17.

Friday saw the athletes take to the scale for the official Iso-Sport weigh-ins ahead of fight night, where 22 of the 24 fighters set for action hit their marks to make the 12-fight card official.

Headlining is the eagerly-anticipated clash between Jason “The Assassin” Radcliffe and James Webb. Both middleweight contenders successfully made weight for their contest, with Radcliffe tipping the scales at 185.5lbs and Webb coming in at 185lbs on the nose.

The co-main features a bantamweight bout between Gavin Kelly (135lbs) and Cory Tait (135.5lbs), while the welterweight main card bout between UK MMA veterans Nathan Jones (170lbs) and Brad Wheeler (170.7lbs) also saw both participants hit their mark.

There were problems on the scale for featherweight Lucasz Rajewski, who came in at 148.5lbs for his bout with newcomer Mads Burnell (145.6lbs), and for Jamie Richardson, who weighed in at 171.6lbs for his welterweight main card opener with Phil Wells (170lbs).

Both Rajewski and Richardson have been fined 50% of their respective fight purses, with 40% of the purse going to their opponents and 10% going to the charity of their opponents’ choice.

On the pro prelims, featherweight Steve Aimable needed two attempts to make weight, but eventually succeeded, hitting 145.9lbs for his bout against Josh Abraham (145lbs), while lightweights Mehdi Ben Lakhdhar (156lbs) and Craig Edwards (155.2lbs) both made weight for the opening pro bout of the night.

Further down the card, all 10 fighters set for action on the amateur preliminary card made weight, including Steve Riformato and Eric Veyrier, who will do do battle for the amateur middleweight title in the featured amateur bout of the night.
