Breaking: Cage Warriors – Europe’s Leading MMA Organisation – has today confirmed news of a huge unification bout in its thriving 170lb division. Reigning welterweight world champion Justin Burlinson will face newly crowned interim champion Sean Clancy Jr at CW Scotland.
Tickets for CW Glasgow are available here!
The five-round affair will serve as the main event when the promotion returns to Glasgow’s Braehead Arena on Saturday, April 25th, with the winner being crowned Cage Warriors’ Undisputed Welterweight World Champion.
Champion Justin Burlinson (10-2) captured welterweight gold at the second time of asking. After a coming within inches of victory in an instant classic against Rhys McKee in Belfast, the Englishman finally had his hand raised last April, toppling James Sheehan in Dublin following another all out war.
The TFT man, who trains under UKMMA mainstay Andrew Fisher, also holds notable wins over Theodor Berggren, Daniel Skibinski and Jamie Richardson.
With Burlinson being unavailable to compete in late 2025, the title became disputed when Paisley’s Sean Clancy Jr (8-0) faced Melvin Van Suijdam for an interim title. Clancy closed the show with one of Cage Warriors’ all-time-great knockouts, claiming the gold and immediately calling out Burlinson.
Ending weeks of speculation, the bout is now signed, sealed and will be delivered on April 25th.
“It’s time to unify one of the most sought-after titles in MMA!” said CW President Graham Boylan.
“Justin Burlinson is one of the most durable athletes ever to strap-on the Famous Yellow Gloves, and he knows how to go into enemy territory and leave with his hand raised.”
“Sean Clancy Jr represents the next evolution of MMA athlete. He’s young, undefeated, and believes that he’s the true 170lb champion.”
“It all gets settled on April 25th!”
Tickets for Cage Warriors Glasgow are available now, with the entire event airing live on UFC Fight Pass. Further bouts will be announced in due course.
