Cage Warriors’ status as Europe’s biggest MMA promotion has been strengthened further by the addition of Cage Warriors Academy Denmark.
The latest addition to the Cage Warriors Academy network will establish Cage Warriors in Denmark, a region that has produced Cage Warriors lightweight title challenger Soren Bak and former CW welterweight champion Nicolas Dalby.
And further strengthening Cage Warriors’ Danish contingent is the signing of Olympic wrestler Mark O. Madsen, a five-time world championship medallist who also took silver in the Greco-Roman discipline at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
Madsen has made a perfect start to his mixed martial arts career, winning each of his four professional bouts to date, with all four wins coming inside the opening round, two by TKO finish, two by guillotine choke submission.
Cage Warriors Academy Denmark, in partnership with Team Olympian, will look to support the grassroots development of the sport in the region and will also host regional shows with the first show on Sat 22nd Sept, with Madsen featuring on the fight card.
The development is part of a wider Cage Warriors investment into MMA in Scandinavia – an initiative being undertaken in partnership with partners Viaplay Fighting – and has a strong desire to collaborate with the strong local scenes in each of the four countries.
It’s seen fighters from all four territories signed to the Cage Warriors roster, and earlier this year saw Cage Warriors host its first event in Gothenburg, Sweden.
It’s a long-term commitment that builds on the successful Cage Warriors Academy initiatives instituted in the UK and Ireland as the organisation looks to give back to the martial arts community and develop a pathway for athletes to progress from domestic level through to European level and, potentially, on to the biggest stage in the sport.
Cage Warriors president Graham Boylan said: “We’re excited to launch Cage Warriors Academy Denmark, and equally excited to have someone as respected as Mark Madsen involved.
“He is an Olympic medallist with significant crossover appeal who delivers exciting fights and, just as importantly, he’s a great guy, too. We’re delighted to work with him and Team Olympian to help grow the great sport of MMA across Denmark.”
Madsen said he’s delighted to be partnering with Cage Warriors, saying: “The opportunity to work with Cage Warriors is a dream come true for any European fighter looking to achieve success in the sport. Cage Warriors is respected and renowned as the best organisation in European mixed martial arts, and I can’t wait to fight for them, and help grow the sport in Denmark.”
