The promotion’s originally announced Dublin date in November has been brought forward to Saturday, October 14th, when Cage Warriors will make history as the first MMA event to take place at the RDS.
The promotion returned to the Irish capital in April following a six year hiatus, with a critically acclaimed event featuring the likes of the Shelley brothers, Leon Hill, Alexander O’Sullivan, James Sheehan and more, capped off by a welterweight title bout for the ages that saw Rhys McKee unify the division against UK MMA legend Jimmy Wallhead.
In addition to the new Dublin date, CW officials have also confirmed a Saturday, November 25th return to Newcastle, the promotion’s first since CW 73 in 2014.
That event featured a double main card, headlined by local favourite Alex Enlund’s momentous featherweight title win against future UFC star Nad Narimani, and a lightweight title bout between UFC veterans Stevie Ray and Curt Warburton.
Current CW flyweight champion Shaj Haque also featured on the bill.
Tickets for CW 161: Dublin will be available via an exclusive presale on June 28th, before going on general sale on June 30th. Presale for CW 164: Newcastle will take place on July 6th, with general sale following on July 7th.
Cage Warriors President Graham Boylan weighed in on the new schedule.
“We have a roster made up of hundreds of athletes on both sides of the Atlantic; our top priorities are keeping them active and putting on as many high-quality events as possible for our fans.”
Boylan continued, “As such, we’ve adjusted our schedule to bring forward our return to Dublin with a history-making first MMA event at the RDS, and we’re also taking the Cage Warriors experience back to Newcastle for the first time in nine years.”
“We’re committed to giving our athletes the platform to showcase their skills to a global audience, and with these dates added to a schedule that already includes events in London, Manchester, Rome and San Diego, there’s never been a better time for fighters or fans to be part of ‘The Draft’ of MMA!”
