With just over 24 hours to go until fight night, the Cage Warriors 183 athletes hit the scales at Rome’s Hilton Hotel on Friday morning, ahead of the promotion’s highly anticipated return to the sold out Palapellicone for what has been dubbed the most talent-rich card in Italian MMA history.
Two title fights are set to headline the evening’s festivities, with all four participants making weight comfortably ahead of Saturday’s double-headliner.
In the main event, England’s Liam Gittins (134lbs) will look to make the second defence of his bantamweight title, as he faces Napoli’s Alessandro Giordano (134.5lbs). The Italian will be hoping history repeats itself; the last time an Englishman defended the 135lbs strap against an Italian on home soil, the title didn’t return to the UK.
In the co-main event, Dario Bellandi (184.6lbs) will also attempt a second title defence, as he puts the middleweight title up for grabs against old foe Naglis Kanišauskas (184.7lbs). ‘The Smiling Boy’ has been resurgent since dropping a decision to the Italian, and will look to even the score on Saturday night.
There was drama elsewhere, as KO specialist Konstantinos Ntelis tipped the scales at 164lbs for his highly anticipated lightweight clash with Michael Pagani (155.3lbs). Ntelis opted not to cut further weight, and will be fined a percentage of his purse.
All other fighters made weight at the first time of asking, as such the card will proceed with fifteen bouts as planned.
