Mitchell Goode over Angus Hewett CW 169 (Buggy Choke)
From the second our commentary team lost the plot over Mitchell Goode’s Buggy Choke – the first in Cage Warriors history – it was clear that the unique submission was going to be a shoo-in for the End of Year Awards.
Not only was the one-of-a-kind finish spectacular in its own right, it came after Goode has spent a good portion of the bout against former CW Academy Champion Hewett on the receiving end of some serious punishment.
Fortunately he was happy to blame it on the Buggy.
Ger Harris over Gregory Wamytan CW 170 (Guillotine Choke)
It wasn’t all smooth sailing for Ger Harris in the opening minutes of his bout with submission ace Gregory Wamytan, but the ‘GTA Selector’ was about to pick out something special to highlight his sophomore outing in the famous yellow gloves.
The Irishman decided he was going to beat the grappler at his own game, and the second he got a bite on his fight-ending guillotine, it was clear that the gig was up.
Chasen Blair over Artūrs Leisāns CW 172 (Armbar)
Fresh off a showcase of his hellacious punching prowess against Orlando Sanders, fans were expecting another highlight-reel finish from Chasen Blair at CW 172. They got one, just not the way they expected.
Blair snapped on the fight-ending armbar so rapidly, you’d have thought he was known primarily for his Jiu Jitsu over his infamous striking and wrestling. It was a victory that showed the world how expansive the young American’s toolkit truly is.
Solomon Simon over Walter Cogliandro CW 179 (Ninja Choke)
Solomon Simon didn’t look troubled when he stepped into enemy territory to face Walter ‘Snatch’ Cogliandro at CW 179 in Rome’s PalaPellicone.
The Irishman looked like he was about to cruise to a comfortable points win against the Italian, before a buzzer-beating Ninja Choke with just six seconds left on the clock.
Manuel Del Valle over Sergio Gavinelli CW 179 (Anaconda Choke)
A second nomination in the End of Year Award for CW newcomer Manuel Del Valle really points to the impact the young Spaniard has made on the promotion over the last twelve months.
‘Mouzid’ ended the year on a high, dropping home favourite Sergio Gavinelli before snatching the big man’s next for a water tight Anaconda choke.
