CW112: Manchester results recap and highlights

A packed-out Manchester BEC Arena witnessed world bantamweight champion Jack Cartwright retain his belt, kicking off Cage Warriors’ packed 2020 schedule with a night to remember.

The Main Event saw Jack Cartwright tested across all five rounds for the first time in his career. Challenger Manuel Bilic proved the toughest test of Cartwright’s career by far, surviving an early striking onslaught and threatening with multiple submissions throughout the 25 minutes.

But it was the Champion’s night on Cage Warriors’ first visit to his hometown of Manchester. ‘And Still’ he reigns.

In the co-main event, Adam Proctor looked in the best shape of his career to date as he became the first man to end Madars Fleminas’ 7-fight unbeaten run.

Proctor’s quest to become the top Welterweight on the continent continues. It’s going to take something special to stop ‘The Love Doctor’!

Rising Manchester name George Smith took advantage of a late-notice spot on the UFC Fight Pass Main card, securing a first-round submission win in front of the home crowd. Smith was due to compete on the pro prelims, but took the place of his teammate Martin Stapleton on the Main Card after Stapleton’s opponent withdrew on medical grounds and their fight was removed.

Another top-tier fight on the main card saw former champion James Webb return to form with a unanimous decision victory over Mick Stanton.

Before that, a big step up in class by Adam Wilson saw him defeat Scott Malone via second-round rear-naked choke. Wilson is the latest prospect fighting out of Liverpool’s Next Generation stable alongside former CW champions Meatball Molly and Chris Fishgold.

Another of his teammates, Nathan Fletcher, impressed on the pro prelims with a TKO finish to keep his undefeated streak intact.

It was a clean sheet for the Irish on the pro preliminary card, which saw rising prospects James Sheehan and Paul Hughes close the show within the distance. Sheehan battled his way to a submission in the third, while Hughes added to his highlight reel with a stunning headkick knockout. That’s an early contender for KO of the year already in the bag for Hughes, who fights next in Belfast on May 16th.

At the top of the prelims, Jonas Mågård burst into the bantamweight division with an utterly dominant win over Liam Gittins, ending ‘The Nightmare’s’ undefeated streak.

Next up for Cage Warriors is a return to London for the sold-out CW113, headlined by an Interim Featherweight Title Fight between Morgan Charriere and Darko Banovic. Paddy Pimblett, Mason Jones and flyweight champion Samir Faiddine also feature on the card.
