CW89’s Kerry Hughes displays the transformative power of MMA

In 2010, Kerry Hughes weighed over 18 stone and sat working a sedentary job for most of the day. On November 25th 2017, after winning BCMMA amateur and professional titles, she’ll face ex-UFC fighter Cindy Dandois in front of thousands in the Lotto Arena, Antwerp at CW89.

If ever there was proof that a change in mindset can change your life, it’s Kerry Hughes’ story. In a matter of years, she’s turned herself into one of the most exciting MMA prospects on the European scene, and has the chance to prove she belongs on the world stage this November 25th against Cindy Dandois.

Kerry used take life day by day, caught in a rut of unhealthy habits which sapped her energy and left her with little motivation. One day she decided to change, and over the coming years became increasingly fitter through dedicated gym routines and diet plans. But after a while she hit a wall. The routines became boring and too predictable. How could she continue to chase her goals in an even more demanding environment?

The answer was MMA.

After years of gruelling training and learning the vast amount of skills needed to step into the octagon, Kerry’s head coach Jack Mason put her in for her first MMA fight at 66kgs, and she’s since gone on to win BCMMA amateur and professional bantamweight titles.

The fight above displays Hughes’ deadly striking skills, which Cindy Dandois will have to be wary of during their bout at CW89. Dandois comes into the fight as the more decorated fighter on paper and boasts and impressive ground game, which makes this an exciting fight that could go either way.

The fight will take place during Cage Warriors 89, the biggest MMA event ever to be held in Belgium. Welterweight Champion Karl Amoussou will face ex-UFC fighter Dominique Steele for the belt, and the vacant Heavyweight Title is on the line when the Italian Mauro Cerilli faces Dutchman Nills Van Noord. These two title fights top a massive card, when Belgium’s Donovan Desmae clashes with submission specialist Aiden Lee, and Ayton de Paepe faces Welsh super-prospect Jack Shore.
