Cage Warriors North West Academy has built a seriously strong amateur card for CW90 on February 24th, featuring 4 title fights and appearances from the UK’s hottest prospects.
The North West has produced some of the biggest UK MMA fighters ever to step foot in the octagon, including ex-UFC Middleweight Champion Michael Bisping and current rising star Darren Till. For every world-class athlete, the journey has to start somewhere, and Cage Warriors North West Academy could be the place it begins.
The Cage Warriors Academy undercard showcases the future stars of European mixed martial arts, and provides a platform to build their early careers alongside huge events like CW90 at Liverpool’s Echo Arena. Working with regional MMA expert Paul Reed, we’ve selected 16 amateur fighters from across the North West who will go to war looking to impress the crowds and Cage Warriors management with stand-out performances on February 24th. One impressive showing could kick start a legendary career.
Topping the academy card is a high-stakes Middleweight NW Academy Title fight between Igor Puskaris and George Smith. Smith, the current champion fighting out of the renowned SBG Manchester, will look to neutralise the explosive grappling and raw power that Puskaris possesses in order to ensure the belt doesn’t leave Manchester. Igor will have other ideas, and will look to bring the belt back to Team Elite gym where he trains with ex-North West Academy Champion Liam Gittins and his brother Sam Gittins, who opens up the card in a bantamweight bout with Jamie Small.
Title fights in the Lightweight, Featherweight and Bantamweight divisions will also feature, including appearances from unbeaten prospects Jay Seddon, who faces Kieran Connor, and Nathan Fletcher who comes up against Cory Fry of Blackburn Predators. Joining Fletcher on the card is his Next Generation teammate Adam Cullen, who faces Danny Dixon in an exciting welterweight match up between two fast rising prospects. Cullen, a regular training partner of Paddy Pimblett and Molly McCann, is no stranger to tough opposition but will have to be wary of Dixon’s knockout power in the early rounds. Tom Clarke, who submitted Cullen at CW88, looks to continue his undefeated streak but will have to go through Rueben Beresford first.
The card will also see current champ Mark Smith face the more experienced Callum Mullen to determine the north west amateur featherweight king, and Damon Donald go head-to-head with Chris Green in a fight between two exciting lightweights coming off first round finishes.
With every fighter on the card wanting to make a statement on this amazing platform, each one of these bouts has high stakes attached. We could very well be seeing the next big names begin their journeys on February 24th. It’s all on the line.
For fight fans in Liverpool, this really is an event not to be missed. Tickets can be booked from the Liverpool Echo Arena here.
