End of Year Awards winners revealed

With 12 events across countries, Cage Warriors’ stacked 2021 was a year to remember.  Keep a lookout as the results for the winners in each category of our End of Year Awards come in.

Knockout of the Year

Ian “The Future” Garry vs Rostem Akman – CW 121

In his first fight of the year, Ian Garry would set up a beautiful head kick knockout with a three punch combo, knocking out the UFC veteran and setting up a cage Warriors welterweight title clash with Jack Grant in the main event of CW 125.

A dominant display over Grant saw “The Future” receive a call up to the UFC, where he would knock out Jordan Williams in the first round at UFC 268, taking his record to 8-0.

This run of three wins with two knockouts would also see Garry be nominated for Cage Warriors Fighter of the Year

Submission of the Year

Paddy “The Baddy” Pimblett vs Davide Martinez – CW 122

Paddy “The Baddy” Pimblett takes home the Submission of the Year honours for 2021, beating Davide Martinez by Rear Naked Choke at CW 122 in march.

The scouse superstar swept to victory in the YouTube polls, taking 83% of the votes, and 56.3% votes cast on twitter.

Pimblett, a former cage Warriors featherweight champion, would use the win to launch himself into the UFC, where he knocked at Luigi Vendramini in his debut, getting himself nominated for a catalogue of UFC debut awards.

Breakthrough Fighter of the Year

Luke Riley

Luke Riley burst onto the scene this year with two emphatic KO wins.

At CW 128, the Next Gen young gun hadily took out Team KF’s Kamil Wincenciak before going on to beat Yuki Angdembe with a striking masterclass at CW 131.

It wasn’t an easy ride in the polls for Riley, his Next Gen teammate Adam Cullen won the Twitter poll by 0.4% of the votes, with the deciding votes coming from across YouTube and Facebook.

Fighter of the Year

Ian Garry

Garry takes home his second award, earning Fighter of the Year after two stunning performances in Cage Warriors before being signed to the UFC.

Starting his 2021 with his KO of the Year over Rostem Akman, Garry would capture the Cage Warriors welterweight title at Cw 125 by out striking Jack Grant.

In his UFC debut, Garry would knock out Jordan Williams before uttering his role model, Conor McGregor’s famous lines and adding his own style: “we’re not here to compete, we’re here to take over and this is the take over part two!”.

Fight of the Year

Paul Hughes vs Morgan Charrière – CW 128

Paul Hughes’ epic clash with Morgan Charrière at CW 128 won Cage Warriors Fight of the Year by a landslide, topping all three polls across Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

The two’s main event fight at York Hall will go down as an absolute classic, with each man’s respective fans creating an atmosphere unlike any other seen at a Cage Warriors event.

UFC Fight Pass also awarded Hughes vs Charrière as their Fight of the year for 2021.
