Cage Warriors – Europe’s Leading MMA Organisation – has today confirmed the addition of a huge featherweight title bout to its upcoming return to Newcastle for CW 172.
Harry ‘Houdini’ Hardwick will face Germany’s top 10 ranked featherweight Zafar Mohsen for the currently vacant title at the Vertu Motors Arena on Saturday, May 25th.
The five round bout will feature on a main card stacked with talent from both the North East, the rest of the UK and Europe.
Middlesborough’s Hardwick (10-3-1) earns his shot at the gold off the back of a six-fight unbeaten streak, five of which came under the CW banner.
He most recently saw action at CW 157 last summer, submitting undefeated Brazilian Vitor Estevam just 33 seconds into the second round.
He also counts wins over CW veterans Steve Aimable, Jean N’Doye and Cameron Hardy among his past victories.
Zafar Mohsen (13-4) is a proven finisher, with twelve of his thirteen wins (8 T/KOs, 4 submissions) coming withing the distance for a 93% finish rate.
Heavy handed and with a background in Judo, the Kabul, Afghanistan born, Mannheim, Germany native has been making waves on the European scene over the course of his nine-year professional career.
“We’re kicking off our Newcastle fight announcements with a bang!” said CW President Graham Boylan.
“The fans have been calling for Harry Hardwick to receive a Cage Warriors title shot for some time; now he gets the chance to show the world he’s at the championship level.”
“He’ll have to get past one of the biggest tests of his career in Zafar Mohsen, a guy who’s only been the distance three times in seventeen fights.”
“On May 25th, we find out who’s the best featherweight in Europe!”
Further bouts for CW 172 will be announced in due course.
The entire event will air live on UFC Fight Pass. Tickets are available from CageWarriors.com.
