With both of their previous opponents withdrawing from the March 20th London card at late notice, Mason Jones (8-0) and Joe McColgan (6-2) will instead face off for the lightweight title recently vacated by Jai Herbert.
The two lightweight contenders were left without opponents after Rafael Macedo and Danilo Belluardo both withdrew from the card this week due to injury. This afternoon, Cage Warriors president Graham Boylan confirmed the new bout with both parties this afternoon.
The lightweight title was last held by Jai Herbert, who was signed to the UFC earlier this year. It has previously been held by Conor McGregor, Chris Fishgold, Stevie Ray and other notable European MMA names.
McColgan has not suffered a loss since his bout with Herbert at CW100, and has since then picked up 2 first-round submission wins and 2019’s Fight of the Year with Mehdi Ben Lakhdar.
Mason ‘The Dragon’ Jones remains undefeated in the lightweight division at 8-0, and was crowned 2019 Fighter of the Year in Cage Warriors’ fan-voted End of Year Awards.
