Welcome to our next edition of Meet the PrizeFighters; as we take a look at the six welterweights competing for an incredible $50,000 cash prize and a shot at the Cage Warriors welterweight title!
Omiel Brown
Age: 29
Record: 7-3 (4 T/KO, 3 Sub)
Nationality: Jamaican
One of the hardest hitters in the division, Omiel Brown came within a hair’s breadth of capturing CW gold last November.
For the Team Renegade man, PrizeFighter isn’t just about the money, it’s about the opportunity to earn a second crack at the gold.
“Winning the prize fighter is going to put me right back up there to a title fight again, so I’m excited about that and financially it’s a good start for me because I’ve got responsibilities and people to look after.”
“I want to win the 50k and I want to be the next in line for the belt.”
While he may have a second title shot on the mind, with fifty grand on the line, it’s impossible not to start spending the money in your mind, and Brown has some thoughts on where it might go.
“It’s going to allow me to focus more on my training & improving my craft, I’ll have more time to implement some balance in my life too.”
“It’s a decent amount of money to earn in a night’s work [laughs] and it will help with a lot of things outside of fighting too. I’ll use some to fund my training, treat my son and look after my people around me.”
Like most in his position, Brown is well aware of how much you have to give to the sport of MMA in order to chase greatness.
“I had to sacrifice a lot of time to get to where I’m at now in my career, that includes my social life, holiday breaks and everything else. Fighting twice don’t phase me at all, if anything I’m getting two wins for the price of one camp!”
It’s a pragmatic way of looking at things for sure, one that Brown has always applied to his preparations.
“I treat everyone and every fight the same it’s always going to be Me vs Me. I’m dangerous where ever the fight goes and I’ve got a resume that shows I’m in there to finish you.”
Ultimately though, regardless of the multiple fights, chaos and drama…
“It’s just another couple of fights with a bigger reward at the end. Time to throw these hands for that fifty bands!”
The welterweight #PrizeFighter Tournament goes down as part of CW 176 from Glasgow’s Braehead Arena on Saturday, September 7th.
