With Cage Warriors’ long awaited return to Cardiff just around the corner, it’s time to shine a spotlight on some of the stars of Saturday night’s fight card!
Last remaining tickets for Cage Warriors 156: Cardiff are available here
Matt Bonner: Beast Among Men
It’s tough to pick a single highlight from the long and eventful Cage Warriors career of Warrington’s Hardest Man, Matt ‘The Beast’ Bonner.
There’s the one-armed rear naked choke against Joel Kouadja, the thudding left hook that put down Alan Carlos, or the three-round war against Matt Inman.
If there’s one that stands out from the pack though, it’s the chaotic middleweight title bout against Nathias Frederick, which saw Bonner sink in an air-tight rear-naked choke to capture CW gold.
Darren Stewart: The Dentist Will See You Now
Bonner’s opponent on Saturday night is also no stranger to Cage Warriors – or UFC – fans.
Darren ‘The Dentist’ Stewart has been pulling teeth in the famous yellow gloves since his days as an amateur.
More recently the London Shootfighters man has been in fine form, winning two on the bounce, including this impressive first round TKO of well-travelled veteran Guilherme Cadena.
Reece McEwan: Climbing The Ladder
One of Europe’s fastest rising bantamweights, Greenock’s Reece McEwan has been tabbed by those in the know as ‘one to watch’.
On Saturday night he’ll be testing his mettle against a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu blackbelt in the form of Leonardo de Oliveira.
No stranger to a submission himself, McEwan wowed on his CW debut with this buttery-smooth rear naked choke against the always dangerous Sam Spencer.
Rory Evans: Heavy Hands
Some people just hit different, and Rory Evans is one of those people. The Welsh powerhouse will be representing for the local fans on the CW 156 main card, and he’s no stranger to putting on a show for the home side.
The Shore MMA man concluded his business early last time we were in Cardiff, submitting Brad Evans in under 3 minutes, but he’s best remembered for a finish during the empty arena era of the Pandemic.
Sound on, volume up for some of the most impactful ground ‘n’ pound we’ve ever heard!
Jimmy Quinn: The Viral Sensation
Jimmy Quinn may be a novice professional, but he’s already a viral sensation thanks to his exploits on the amateur circuit.
Part of The MMA Fight Academy – an exciting reality project helmed by MOLA in association with Cage Warriors – Quinn has been honing his skills in a full-time, elite training camp in California under the auspices of Coach Mark Fiore.
While we wait to see what new tricks he’s developed in the Sunshine State, why not take a look back some of his handywork on the CW Academy…
Cage Warriors 156: Cardiff goes down at the Vale Sports Arena on Saturday, July 1st, with all fights airing live on UFC Fight Pass and international broadcast partners.
