At the top of the CW 215 bill, Ieuan Davies is about to find out what life is like on the other side of the belt. The new lightweight king makes the first defence of his 155lbs title on Saturday, November 28th, and the man standing across the cage is one of the most decorated names the promotion has ever produced: Jordan Vucenic.

Lightweight champion, Ieuan Davies, poses with CW Matchmaker Ian Dean

The Welshman earned his gold in this very building. At CW 207 he met former champion Omiel Brown, survived a submission attempt in the opening seconds, and turned the tables with a rear-naked choke just over a minute into round one. It was a statement of a finish, and it moved him to 8-0 as a professional, six of those wins coming in the famous Yellow Gloves.

Now comes the first real test of life as champion.

Cage Warriors confirmed the title defence in September, handing Davies a former world champion with a UFC stint behind him. For Vucenic, it is a return to Manchester for the first time since CW 116 in 2020, and a chance to add a second Cage Warriors world title to his collection.

He stands at 16-4 in MMA, and he’s still only 30. He has been there, done that, and brought the belt home before, capturing featherweight gold in a five-round thriller with Morgan Charriere before defending it against James Hendin by submission.

Jordan Vucenic At CW 208 London

Known for being silky smooth on the feet, with excellent shot selection and a relentless pace. Dangerous on the ground, with a deep submission arsenal to call upon. And with the title on the line, he has that all important experience in the championship rounds.

Davies is unbeaten through eight, he took the belt from a former champion in a little over a minute and did it in front of a Manchester crowd. The Welshman has the size too: at around 6’1″, he gives up a few inches of height to nobody and holds a clear edge on Vucenic’s 5’10” frame.

So what happens when the champion’s confidence meets the challenger’s experience? Does Davies keep his perfect record intact against the toughest opponent of his career? Can Vucenic turn back the clock, add a second Cage Warriors title to his name and put himself back in the UFC conversation? Five rounds is a long time to find out.

And what does it mean for the lightweight division? Whoever leaves Manchester with the belt will stand tall in a wide-open weight class.
