Cage Warriors – Europe’s Leading MMA Organisation – is once again making the journey North of the boarder!
Glasgow’s Braehead Arena is once again the destination, Saturday, September the 7th is the date and a stacked night of mixed martial arts action is what’s on the cards.
That isn’t just empty hype; previous Caledonian excisions have cooked up more than their fair share of excitement over the years, be they from our original visits in 2012/13, or our long-awaited return earlier this year.
So with just weeks to go until CW 176, CW’s resident Play-by-Play man Brad Wharton takes a look back at some of Cage Warriors most memorable moments on Scottish soil!
Chris Bungard’s Walkout
One word: Iconic.
Chris ‘The Bad Guy’ Bungard’s atmospheric tribute to the late, great Windham Rotunda will go down in CW history as one of the promotion’s most atmospheric cage walks.
Channelling the spirit of Rotunda’s Max Cady-inspired Bray Wyatt character, with a call back to his infamous “We’re here!” promo, it was a fitting honorific for the wrestling superstar, who had passed away the previous year following a heart attack.
It didn’t end their either; as the lights came back on, the unmistakable opening riff of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s Bad Moon Rising’ crunched out over the PA system, sending the Glasgow faithful into raptures at cage side.
Jo-Jo’s Farewell
Joanne Wood is one of Scotland’s most recognisable MMA athletes, following a trailblazing 18-fight career in the UFC.
While she would compete on home soil a handful of times for the industry leader, her last hurrah in front of a Scottish crowd before pursuing a career stateside came at Cage Warriors 53 at Glasgow’s Kelvin Hall.
Wood faced American veteran Sally Krumdiack, putting on a consummate performance the process.

Wilson vs Roddy: A Classic of the Genre
Rewind to 2012, and Cage Warriors first ever trip to Scotland. It was a huge event for the nation – the first time a major organisation had held an event in the country – and that called for some big fights with an international flavour.
Owen Roddy vs Wilson Reis was just that. Roddy – who would later find fame as the striking coach for Connor McGregor – had just come off a career-best win over UFC veteran Shannon Gugerty, while Reis was a long-established name in the sport, on the cusp of signing to the big show.
Cage Warriors will be bringing an equally big fight to Scotland in the form of George Hardwick’s return against Cristian Iorga, but in the meantime you can treat yourself to a re-run of the Roddy-Reis classic via the Cage Warriors YouTube channel!
Clancy’s Coming Out Party
There’s no disputing the fact that Sean Clancy Jr is one of Scotland’s hottest up-and-coming properties. Undefeated as a professional following a glittering amateur career, Clancy made a huge impact on his Cage Warriors debut in 2023.
The party really started back in April though, as the Higher Level man ran through his toughest opponent to date in Brazil’s Lucas Rodrigues.
The bout not only showcased his ever-evolving skill set, it also highlighted his incredible connection with the Scottish crowd.
Now, with a place in the $50k PrizeFighter tournament, Clancy could be in for the biggest night of his career!
Cage Warriors returns to Glasgow for CW 176 on Saturday, September 7th!
